As Dr. Piper has moved toward retiring from Project Management in the IT industry, she continues to use her project management skills to drive change in her life. This presentation will demonstrate how she has used classic project management techniques to transform from IT Project Manager to retire as a travel writer. She relied heavily on these project management techniques to author her new book “100 Things to Do in Lansing Before You Die,” maintain her freelance travel writing, all while managing a day job.
BONUS: PMI-MTC Director of Social Media, will be interviewing a few of our chapter's sitting board members.
Amy Piper, Ph.D., PMP, has been in the IT project management field for over 35 years. She was a founding board member of the Michigan Capital Area Chapter of PMI and served on the board for ten years in several roles.
As she moves into retirement from project management, she has used project management techniques to transform her career into a published author and travel writer, all while managing her day job. Today Piper is a Lansing, Michigan-based freelance travel writer, blogger, and photographer. Bomb-sniffing dogs chased her in the middle of the night in Bogota, gate agents refused her boarding to Paraguay (wrong visa), 21 lions surrounded her Land Rover while on safari, and Federal Marshalls announced her seat number on a plane looking for a murder suspect (traded seats). It’s always an adventure! She even finds adventures close to home in Lansing, Michigan. She contributed the Michigan chapter in an anthology called “Midwest Road Trip Adventures.” Reedy Press has recently published her book “100 Things to Do in Lansing Before You Die.” You can follow her adventures at www.FollowthePiper.com, @100ThingsLansing, or buy her book here.
Registration will end Tuesday, prior to meeting, at 11:55PM.
